Hi, i just partnered with vultra and am looking for any and all constructive criticism. You can check out my channel below my name, but i basically want to introduce myself. My name is Aidan, aka stickaidan. I've been kind of laid back on uploading until recently, when i starting getting MUCH more serious about upload frequency and quality, and after a while i was invited by vultra (on youtube) to apply to become a partner. SO far they have been really nice, and answered all my questions. What i really want to do is try to improve my views/subs, and i figure the best way to do that is to improve my content... so i made this post to ask if anyone has thoughts on what i could do to improve my channel.
PS what do you guys think of my intro? is is okay/bad/good and is there anything i could change? i'm not the best video editor but i can hold my own.

First I'd like to say welcome to Vultra stickaidan.

You have some awesome audio quality maybe just a small volume boost on your voice! The one thing I've noticed in doing my videos is generally you get higher viewer retention when you have a 10 minute or less video. Do you edit your videos or are you a purist? Meaning you don't clip gameplay you like to keep it solid?

The reason I say this is because higher viewer watch time pushes your video up higher in rankings.

Overall awesome quality awesome stuff you'll do great Smile

oh okay. yeah i've been trying to upload shorter segmented videos, but i get carried away since i love playing video games so much that i keep recording, and with my current setup its all in one file unless i manually stop recording and start again to split it up. i do edit, mostly because my family is rather large and my baby brother is rather loud, so i have to cut out stuff (although i do record in separate audio streams with dxtory). I'll keep a timer going for recording, to try and keep it under 10 minutes though Smile
To answer the purist question:
I would LIKE to keep it all in (mostly because i have been asked before how i aquired that item after editing chunks of footage out), but i do get rid of alot of unnecessary stuff (like, for example, in skyrim i try to edit out walking long distances). thanks for the comment on audio quality, I've always been bothered by people with terrible microphones, so i invested in a decent headset. I have no idea how to fix the audio volume thing... I've turned my mic up all the way without adding mic boost past 10 (after that i get a hissing noise) and i turn up my mic stream by 12 decibels in Sony vegas while editing. The main problem i have is getting people to actually watch my stuff... i have about 120 subs but i get low views comparatively. I hate advertising on other peoples videos, i don't have the money to pay for advertising >.< is there a solution to this that i don't know about? i've advertised on countless "advertise your channel in the comments" videos but to no avail.

Well with me I post to my facebook and twitter... I'm still pretty fresh in the scene but I two don't like having to resort to commenting on videos just to draw attention to my channel... If I comment on a video it's because I truly like the video.

As for recording voice I record separately with Audacity its a free recording software that's pretty straight forward and that allows you to have an audio track that is just your voice that's boostable. If you do use Audacity I suggest you give yourself a visual que every time you record like pausing the game right when you start recording audio or something of that nature so you sync it up correctly... I tend to count down for syncing... If you ever want to bat tips back and forth you can add me on skype Smile

What i meant by audio streams was, i have two streams in dxtory recording using the lagarith codec, so when i edit in vegas i don't have to spend a ton of time syncing audio Smile

Oh very nice! yeah I don't mess with dxtory much with my method I think in that case just use vegas to boost the audio a tad bit more than you do. Views are the meat and potatoes of youtube and I definitely feel your pain... I just broke 100 subs a day ago but I think what my main issue is these are subs that are friends and family and closer acquaintances... The ones that sub because they feel more obligated to than anything else... they sub but don't sub for the right reasons... My mindset has gone toward focusing on putting out the best quality I can and eventually I will catch on... I've become much more patient with my channel that I was starting out... How long ago did you start your channel?

Well, i made a youtube account about 2 years ago (i think) but my first video was uploaded about 1 year ago... when i first decided to play minecraft. from then to about a mont ago i was really irregular, i would sometimes go a month without uploading, and sometimes i would upload like 3 videos in a day. in the last week or so, i've been keeping it closer to 1 video a day (which is difficult because i have school and i work out, and the render times are awful) but i've kept it like this so far. I originally uploaded whatever i play playing at the time, on a whim (hence the irregularity) but i've been trying to keep the channel a little predictable as of late. i think i'll be bringing back a few older games soon though, as they seemed to get me the most hits. my strike force heroes video was put up as soon as it came out and i got over 3k hits so far, which is almost half of my total views. i also have a few other videos that managed to get over 100 hits... so i might make more videos related to them in a bit.
