Forum Spam needs to stop

Hey everyone,

As you may have noticed we still seem to be getting a lot of spam and I think the cause is most likely linked to the fact the forums run off forumotion.


Can I recommend that we stop using this service and have a self hosted forum running some thing other than phpBB.

The 2 I would recommend are:

IPB: This forums system is great and has a lot of great features and can even import data from other systems as long has you have the Database information and the code is protected by Ion Cube so it's harder for spam bots. The only downside is it isn't free.

OR SMF: SMF is a great Free system that also has a lot of great features. The only downside is it is free and the code is viewable to anyone who downloads it so there is an increased spam rate compared to the Protected IPB.

With any forum system I would also recommend using a service called Stop Forum Spam.

I'm honestly new to using forums like these but I do agree with you on this! It makes the whole system practically useless! +1
